How does the Behringer PS400 work?

The Behringer PS400 operates by converting standard AC or DC power into the 48V phantom power required by condenser microphones. It features two XLR inputs and outputs, allowing a direct connection to your mic and audio interface or mixer. This dual-channel functionality means you can power two microphones simultaneously, making it a versatile addition to any audio setup. In practical use, you'll connect your microphone to the PS400, which in turn plugs into your mixer, providing clean and stable power for superior sound capture.

Is the Behringer Micropower PS400 compatible with all microphones?

While the Behringer Micropower PS400 is primarily designed for condenser microphones that require phantom power, it may not be suitable for dynamic microphones, which don’t need external power. It's important to check the specifications of your microphone beforehand. When used with compatible microphones, the PS400 helps achieve optimal audio clarity and performance. For example, if you're using a high-end condenser microphone for vocals in a studio setting, the PS400 will ensure it operates at its best capacity, resulting in a professional sound.

What are the benefits of using the PS400 over other power supplies?

The Behringer Micropower PS400 stands out due to its ultra-compact size, making it highly portable compared to traditional power supplies. Its lightweight and sleek design allows for easy integration into both live and studio setups without taking much space. Moreover, the PS400 is known for its stable and reliable output voltage, which is crucial for maintaining sound quality. For instance, if you're traveling to a recording session, you'll appreciate how the PS400 can fit into your gear bag without adding extra weight.

Can I use the Behringer PS400 with battery-powered devices?

Yes, the Behringer PS400 can be utilized alongside battery-powered devices as long as those devices have inputs for phantom power. For instance, you can connect the PS400 to a portable audio interface that also runs on batteries, providing a seamless way to use your condenser microphone outdoors or in locations without easy access to AC power. This versatility allows for creative recording opportunities in various environments.

Does the PS400 introduce any noise into my audio setup?

No, the Behringer Micropower PS400 is designed to provide clean and consistent phantom power, minimizing any added noise to your audio signals. The power supply's sturdy construction and quality components help ensure high-quality output. Practically, this means when you’re recording, you can expect that the sound captured by your condenser microphone remains clear and free from electrical interference, which is essential for professional-grade recordings.

What outputs does the PS400 provide?

The Behringer PS400 features two XLR outputs that can connect directly to your mixing console or audio interface. Each output is equipped with a respective XLR input, allowing a direct line from your microphone's signal. This setup is particularly beneficial for recording sessions that involve multiple microphones, as each can run through the same power supply. In essence, it simplifies the connection process, ensuring you’re ready to record efficiently.

Is there an on/off switch on the PS400?

Yes, the Behringer Micropower PS400 is equipped with an easily accessible on/off switch. This feature allows users to quickly control the phantom power supply, maximizing convenience during setups or sessions. For example, you can quickly turn off the power when you're connecting or disconnecting microphones to prevent any pops or noise when engaging or disengaging connections. This detail adds an element of safety and control to your audio environment.

How do I power the Behringer PS400?

The Behringer Micropower PS400 requires a standard AC power supply, usually provided through a 12V DC adapter, which is included with the unit. To use it, simply connect the adapter to an outlet and plug it into the PS400. In settings where AC power is not available, you can use DC power sources as well. The ability to switch between power sources makes the PS400 adaptable for various recording environments, whether in a studio or on location.

What is the size of the Behringer PS400?

The Behringer Micropower PS400 is remarkably compact, measuring just a few inches in width and length. Its small footprint allows it to easily fit into a gear bag alongside other equipment. This portability is particularly advantageous for musicians and sound engineers who often work in changing environments, as it ensures you can transport your essential tools without hassle. You can confidently bring it along for gigs, studio sessions, or home recordings without it taking up much room.

Behringer MICROPOWER PS400 Ultra-Compact Phantom Power Supply is a versatile and essential device for powering condenser microphones. This phantom power supply features a switch that allows you to toggle between 12V and 48V, ensuring you can use it with various mics without excess noise. Many users have praised its ability to cleanly power microphones while minimizing the noise typically associated with higher voltage settings, making it particularly advantageous for those using smaller mixers. With a robust metal enclosure and an easy plug-and-play setup, it’s well-suited for both home studios and on-the-go setups. However, some users expressed a desire for an on/off button instead of unplugging it manually.
