Prime Numbers: A Computational Perspective
This book bridges the gap between theoretical and computational aspects of prime numbers...prime numbers beckon to the beginner, as the basic notion of primality is accessible even to children. Yet, some of the simplest questions about primes have confounded humankind for millennia. In the new edition of this highly successful book, Richard Crandall and Carl Pomerance have provided updated material on theoretical, computational, and algorithmic fronts.

Number Theory Editorial Review

**** "Prime Numbers: A Computational Perspective, 2nd Edition" has garnered a varied reception from readers, reflecting the complexity and depth of the material presented. The book stands out for its comprehensive coverage of prime numbers and related topics, with insights drawn from research up to 2004. Many reviewers praised the extensive range of exercises at the end of each chapter, highlighting the presence of intriguing puzzles that enhance the learning experience. This feature has been particularly beneficial for those looking to deepen their understanding of the subject matter. However, potential readers should be aware that this book is tailored for individuals with a solid foundation in number theory and a basic understanding of abstract algebra. Several reviewers noted that, at times, the content could feel dense or compressed, which might make it challenging for those with only modest experience in these areas. While some found the writing to be overly wordy—focusing more on verbal explanations rather than mathematical proofs or theorems—others appreciated the detailed discussions that accompany complex concepts. The book has also been recognized as a valuable resource in practical applications, such as computer security, where understanding prime numbers is crucial. Despite the diverse opinions, "Prime Numbers: A Computational Perspective" is deemed a worthwhile investment for those eager to explore the computational facets of prime numbers and their significance. **
