Blindness [DVD + Digital]

**** The Lionsgate Double Feature Blu-ray release of *Blindness* and *Proof* promises an intriguing juxtaposition of two distinct films but faces criticism regarding its technical quality. Viewers familiar with modern Blu-ray releases may find the video encoding bitrate of 18mbps for *Blindness* noticeably lower than expected, reminiscent of older or budget Blu-rays. This downgrade detracts somewhat from the otherwise engaging visual experience, making it feel more like standard HD streaming. Despite this, the film *Blindness*, based on José Saramago's Nobel Prize-winning novel, retains its powerful story and thought-provoking themes. Directed by Fernando Meirelles, it provides a haunting exploration of human nature in a dystopian scenario where an inexplicable epidemic of blindness sweeps through a city. The film's narrative encourages reflection on societal values, particularly the aspects of our humanity that emerge in crisis. Those who appreciate philosophical cinema may find this film compelling, while those seeking clarity in storytelling might feel left disoriented by the lack of conventional plot structure or explanations. Unfortunately, viewers should note that *Blindness* does not come with a digital copy, which may be an inconvenience for those seeking flexible viewing options. However, if you're primarily interested in *Proof*, it offers better quality video in a standalone release for a comparable price. Overall, this double feature can be justified if you specifically seek *Blindness* or are eager to explore both films as a combined package. **
