What is AURIFIL Mako Cotton Thread and what makes it special?

AURIFIL Mako Cotton Thread is a high-quality thread made from 100% long-staple Egyptian cotton, known for its strength and durability. The 50wt thickness strikes a perfect balance for a variety of sewing projects, offering excellent stitch formation and smoothness. This Baby Pink color adds a soft touch, making it ideal for quilting, garment sewing, and embroidery projects. Creators often enjoy the seamless application it offers for both hand and machine sewing, enhancing the overall finish of their work.

What types of projects is AURIFIL 50wt thread best suited for?

AURIFIL 50wt Mako Cotton Thread is versatile and can be used for a wide range of projects including quilting, dressmaking, and home decor. Due to its fine nature, it provides a clean, precise stitch, making it particularly suitable for detailed embroidery as well as lightweight fabrics. Whether you are piecing together quilt blocks, sewing delicate garments, or embellishing items, this thread in Baby Pink is an excellent choice to achieve professional-looking results.

Can you use AURIFIL 50wt thread for machine quilting?

Absolutely! AURIFIL 50wt Mako Cotton Thread is highly favored for machine quilting due to its thinness and strength, which allows for more thread to nest in the seams without bulkiness. This creates a beautiful, flat finish on your quilts. Quilters often appreciate how well it works with various fabric types as well as its compatibility with most sewing machines, ensuring a smooth experience throughout the quilting process.

How does AURIFIL thread compare to other brands?

AURIFIL thread is often praised for its superior quality compared to other brands. It is made from long-staple Egyptian cotton, resulting in a finer and stronger thread. This quality ensures fewer breaks while sewing, less lint buildup in machines, and perfectly smooth stitches. Many crafters prefer AURIFIL for projects requiring precision, as the even texture and vibrant colors, including Baby Pink, allow for beautiful results and ease of use in various techniques.

Is AURIFIL thread colorfast and how does it hold up in washing?

Yes, AURIFIL Mako Cotton Thread is colorfast, meaning it maintains its vibrant color even after washing. This quality is crucial for projects like quilts and wearable items, where exposure to washing is frequent. Users appreciate how the Baby Pink remains bright and cheerful without fading, ensuring that your finished items not only look stunning but also withstand the test of time in terms of color integrity.

What is the length of the AURIFIL thread spool?

The AURIFIL Mako Cotton Thread in Baby Pink comes in a spool containing 1,422 yards of thread. This generous length allows for extensive use without the need for constant replacement, making it a cost-effective option for crafters. This ample supply is especially advantageous for larger projects such as quilts or when using it for multiple smaller tasks, reducing the need for frequent re-spooling.

What needle size is recommended when using AURIFIL 50wt thread?

When using AURIFIL 50wt Mako Cotton Thread, it's best to pair it with a needle size of 80/12 or 90/14. These sizes effectively accommodate the thinner thread while providing enough stability for machine sewing. This combination ensures smooth stitching with minimal risk of damaging the fabric or thread. Experienced sewists often note that selecting the right needle size enhances sewing efficiency and maximizes the final quality of their creations.

Is AURIFIL thread suitable for hand sewing?

Yes, AURIFIL Mako Cotton Thread is excellent for hand sewing as well. Its smooth texture allows for easy threading through needles and swift stitching through all types of fabric. Many embroiderers and quilters prefer this thread for hand-stitched details because it glides effortlessly, reducing the friction that can lead to breakage. Whether you're doing decorative stitching or hand quilting, the Baby Pink hue adds a charming touch to your handmade items.

How should AURIFIL thread be stored?

To maintain the quality of AURIFIL Mako Cotton Thread, it should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This prevents fading and potential degradation of the thread’s fibers. Using a thread box or storage system can help keep the spools organized and prevent any tangling. Proper storage ensures that when you are ready to use the Baby Pink thread, it remains in pristine condition for your sewing projects.
