Bu eseri 1849'da Shirley ve 1853'de Villette izledi. Yazdığı ilk roman olan Profesör ise yazarın ölümünden iki yıl sonra 1857 yılında eşinin onayı ile basıldı.Gamze Varım: İ.Ü. Edebiyat Fakültesi İngiliz Dili ve Edebiyatı Bölümü'nü bitirdi.
