My laptop says I need an app to use the player. Does anyone know of a compatible one?

For laptops running Windows, the drive should work out of the box without any additional software or drivers. However, if you want to watch DVD movies on Windows 10, you will need to install additional app or media playing software. There are various options available, including VLC Media Player which is free to use. You can find more guidance on this at: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-watch-dvds-windows-10

Does it have support for CD's?

Yes, it supports CD's along with various other media types including DVD's.

Has anyone successfully used this to play a game like Civilization?

No, but it has been used to play Black & White.

I bought this DVD drive and installed the included media suite software, but when I put in a DVD and hit 'play movie DVD', nothing happens. What should I do?

Ensure that your media suite (e.g., VLC, WMP) is set to recognize the DVD drive, which may appear as the F drive. If you have installed the bundled software, there may be a wizard or instructions to walk you through the setup process.

Does it work on Windows 11?

Yes, it is confirmed to be compatible with Windows 11.

Is this player region-free?

The player is region-free as it has been tested with DVDs from different regions without any issues. There is also a facility to change the region on a DVD up to 5 times.

Will this work with Windows 8.1?

The compatibility with Windows 8.1 is uncertain as some users have reported issues with the drive, including it stopping to play DVDs. It is recommended to check for specific compatibility information or consider alternative options.

Can it write M-Discs?

The drive can write to ordinary discs including CDs and DVDs, but it is unclear whether it supports M-Discs. It is recommended to consult the manufacturer's website or product documentation for specific information about M-Disc compatibility.

Does it play Blu-ray?

No, it does not play Blu-ray discs. The supported media types include CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-R DL, DVD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD+R, DVD+R DL, DVD+RW, and DVD M-DISC. If you need Blu-ray support, look for a drive that explicitly mentions support for BD-ROM, BD-R, and BD-RW.
